Bergen, Norway heavy rock merchants MASHEENA present their new single “Riffy” taken from their upcoming sophomore album “Let The Spiders In”, due out on April 10th through Majestic Mountain Records and Ripple Music.
This new song was born out of the band’s full Texas experience—traveling to Austin, living there, and recording just outside the city in Dripping Springs. The lyrics pull directly from what happened around the band: late-night conversations with their landlord about her growing up in old Austin with Roky Erickson, and crossing paths with Lester Bangs in the 1970s. There were tattoos at Rock of Ages Tattoo, drag shows, barbecues, and an unexpected meeting with the drummer from King Crimson over smoked meat and beers.
El Profesor aka bass player Tarjei A. Heggernes elaborates: “I started going to Austin around 2012, and I immediately fell in love with the place. The people — big beards, tattoos, Hawaiian shirts and friendly smiles. The food was insane: barbecue, Mexican food, cheap beer with a hipster edge. My first visit was during SXSW, but I quickly realized I preferred Austin outside the festival. That’s when the city really breathes.” This is Masheena’s love letter to Austin—the one that still exists between the glass towers and startup offices. A song about place, memory, and the strange magic that can still happen when a band leaves home, plugs in, and lets the surroundings shape the music. Hailing from Bergen, Norway, the powerhouse quartet MASHEENA blends four decades of hard rock heritage into a fresh, electrifying sound. Their debut album, “West Coast Hard Rock”, was a game-changer — produced by Iver Sandøy and mixed/mastered by Machine, it hit #6 on the Doom Charts, earned global acclaim, and surpassed 100K streams in its first year.
With a revitalized lineup featuring multi-instrumentalists Martin Holmes (Popium, Sylvia Wane) and Heine A. Heggernes (Lost At Last) joining Luis Salomon and Tarjei A. Heggernes, MASHEENA is back and stronger than ever with their sophomore album “Let The Spiders In”, to be issued on Majestic Mountain Records and Ripple Music this spring. Recorded amidst the sun-scorched landscapes of Austin’s Hill Country with renowned producer Machine (Clutch, Lamb Of God, King Crimson), their forthcoming new album”Let The Spiders In” is heavier, more versatile and packed with soulful, vocal-driven hooks. Marrying the melodic-centered vision of Scandinavian hard rock with a bluesy, southern-crisp flavor and a healthy slab of fuzz, “Let The Spiders In” is a distilled shot of pure stadium-tailored heavy rock — a ten-track gem poised to break hearts and rattle cages!
